“We all need Harmony……..”

In a new Civic Role I am honoured to be allowed to perform for the ensuing year , I have been fortunate to meet The High Sheriff of Dorset , Mr Michael Dooley MMs.FRCOG. He has asked me to sit on his Working Group for his project “Harmony for Dorset”. In part , this “Creating Harmony in the Community – a Dorset Journey”  was inspired by The Prince of Wales’ book “Harmony” that was published in 2010.

The project is in association with Bournemouth University and will be a series of Webinars ending in an All-Day Conference on 23rd March 2022.

When I was President of the Bournemouth Chamber of Trade , one of the Specialist Networks I was most proud of that we created in my five-year term of office was BCTC’s “Charities Forum” which linked with our “Health & Wellbeing” Network. My rationale was simple ; if YOU are not in harmony , at one with the world and ‘feeling well’ , your business won’t function as well as it should either.
And if you are doing well , share your good fortune with those less fortunate.

Chambers of Trade offer a shoulder to cry on , can be a necessary critical friend but also an extra line of resilience to life’s challenges when you are ‘a business’. We can all be someone with a shared empathy who is willing to offer a helping hand. The charities in the BCTC Forum were , in most cases , also ‘businesses’ because money is the world’s greatest lubricant for getting things done……but the driver , you , must be clear headed and at one with the world……especially at this time as we emerge from a most challenging eighteen months.

The Webinars organised by The High Sheriff will Host a raft of powerful and influential speakers and experts.

One thing I always tried to illustrate with Bournemouth Chamber was that business is the lifeblood of communities and not just for employment.
Sharing experience , beneficial gregarious tendencies can often see a trouble-shared becoming a trouble-halved.

to see how YOUR Business can be involved.

Maybe YOU can be the friend who is not ‘critical’ but vital – we are all on this journey…..together.
